Selkirk Rex

selkirk rexThe Selkirk Rex originated with a curly coated cat found in Montana, USA. The breed has been established by cross-breeding with Persians and British Shorthair to produce a heavy-boned, medium to large cat which must be neither excessively cobby nor dainty in appearance.

Coat is not fully developed until the cat reaches maturity. This dominant gene means both curly and straight-haired kittens will be born in the same litter. Selkirk Rex kittens may appear straight-haired but will have curly whiskers.

Selkirk Rex Longhair and Selkirk Rex Shorthair are recognised in all colours.

CATZ Inc recognises this breed for full Championship Status.
